Question
Download Solution PDFA train of length 1000 m travelling at a speed of 270 kmph crosses a tunnel in 69 seconds. Find the length of the tunnel. (In metres)
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Length of train = 1000 m
Speed = 270 kmph
Time = 69 seconds
Concept used:
Distance = Speed × Time
Calculation:
Let the length of the tunnel be 'x'
Distance = Length of train + Length of tunnel
Distance = 1000 + x
Speed = 75 m/s
Substitute the values in the formula,
⇒ Distance = Speed × Time
⇒ 1000 + x = 75 × 69
⇒ 1000 + x = 5175
⇒ x = 5175 - 1000
⇒ x = 4175
∴ The length of the tunnel is 4175 metres.
