Given:

The distance between two stations A and B is 200 km.

A train runs from A to B at a speed of 75 km/h, another train runs from

B to A at a speed of 85 km/h

Formula used:

Distance = Speed × time

Relative speed = speed of train A + speed of train B

Calculation:

⇒ Speed of train A = 75 km/hr

⇒ Speed of train B = 85 km/hr

⇒ Relative speed = 75 + 85 = 160 km/hr

⇒ Distance = speed × time

⇒ 200 = 160 × t

⇒ T = 5/4 hr

⇒ T = 5/4 × 60

⇒ Total time = 75 min

⇒ Distance traveled in 72 min

⇒ Distance traveled = 160 × (72/60) = 192

∴ Distance between trains = 200 - 192 is 8km.

Shortcut Trick Relative speed = 75 + 85 = 160 km/hr.

Distance travelled in 3 min = 3/60 × 160 = 8KM

Distance between trains 3 min before they meet will be equal to the total distance traveled by both the trains in 3 min

∴ Distance between trains = 8km.
