• The difficulty level of the paper: The cut-off marks vary every year, depending on the difficulty level of the question papers. If the paper has a high number of difficult questions, the cut off marks will decrease and vice versa.
• The number of vacancies: The total number of vacancies available for the posts lead to the variations in the cut off scores. If there is a large number of vacancies available for a post, the cut-off will significantly decrease and vice versa.

NIMCET Marks vs Rank

Candidates must note that the NIMCET commission releases qualifying criteria of marks for the allotment of rank every year. An aspirant is ranked on the basis of the total weighted marks obtained by him/her in the NIMCET test. Although the commission is yet to release the NIMCET Cut Off Marks 2025 on the official website, you must take note of the NIMCET Annexure No. 13, listing the following factors based on which every participating NIT will award a closing rank for each category -

• If a candidate secures zero or negative marks either in Mathematics or in the total aggregate, he/she will be straight disqualified from the NIMCET test.
• The marks secured in Mathematics, Logical Reasoning & Analytical Ability, Computer Awareness, and English will be multiplied by a factor of 3, 1.5, 2, and 1 respectively.
• The maximum weighted mark is 1000.
• A candidate’s rank will be based on the total weighted marks obtained by him/her.
• In case of tie marks, the resolution will be made on the basis of weighted marks secured in the order of subjects as Mathematics - Logical Reasoning & Analytical Ability - Computer Awareness
• Even if the tie is not resolved by the aforementioned marking order, an older candidate will be favored over a younger one.
