Ideal fluid
- Fluids that don’t have viscosity and are incompressible are termed ideal fluid such fluid does not offer shear resistance i.e no resistance is encountered as the fluid moves.
- These fluids are hypothetical fluids that are they do not exist in reality.
Real fluid
- Fluids that do possess viscosity are termed real fluids. These fluids always offer shear resistance i.e. Certain amount of resistance is always offered by these fluids as they move.
- All the fluids that exist in reality are real fluids.
The property of a fluid that resists the growth of shear deformation in itself is called viscosity.
- This is the same as shear stress in solids.
- Ideal fluid: The fluids that don't have viscosity and are incompressible.
- Ideal fluids have zero surface tension.
- Ideal fluids have infinite bulk modulus.
Explanation:
- As the ideal fluids are the fluids that have no resistance to the shear stress between the layers.
- Therefore, we can say that it has zero viscosity.
Hence, for an ideal fluid, the viscosity is zero.
