In Uttarakhand Judiciary, Preliminary Examination is the first stage of the selection process for aspiring Civil Judges in the state judiciary. It is an objective-type exam conducted on an OMR-based system comprising two papers: General Knowledge and Law Paper.
The duration of the Paper is 3 hours. The Prelims is a screening test and candidates must qualify to proceed to the Mains Examination. In the Prelims exam, there is a negative marking in Uttarakhand Judiciary for incorrect answers.
In Uttarakhand Judiciary exam syllabus, the Preliminary Examination 2025 evaluates candidates on a wide range of topics to ensure understanding of both legal principles and current affairs. The exam is structured to test not only legal knowledge but also general awareness relevant to the judiciary. The Viva Voce is the final stage of the selection process having a weightage of a total of 100 marks. In this stage, candidates who have successfully cleared the Main Examination will appear before an esteemed panel of interviewers.
