The Lok Sabha is also popularly known as the House of the People. It is the lower house of Parliament and it represents the citizens of India. The members of the Lok Sabha are directly elected by the people through general elections. Article 81 of the Indian Constitution deals with the composition of the House of People (Lok Sabha).

Interpretation of Article 81 of Indian Constitution

Article 81 of the Constitution states that the membership of the House of People is fixed at 550 out of which 530 members elected from states and 20 from union territories. According to Article 331 of the Constitution which is subject to the provisions of Article 81, the President may nominate not more than 2 members of the Anglo-Indian Community if he is of the opinion that the community is not being adequately represented in the Lok Sabha. 

It is important to note that the representation of Anglo-Indian Communities ceased to exist after 70 years of the commencement of the Constitution. The 104th Constitutional Amendment Act, 2020 omitted the provision of nominating the Anglo-Indian to the Lok Sabha. The House of People is subject to dissolution with elections held every five years.
