Where, j = Number of joint

re = Number of external reaction

m = Number of members

rr = Number of redundant reaction

Calculation:

Dk = 3j - re - m + rr

j = 11

re = 3 + 2 + 3 + 2 = 10

m = 11

rr = 2 + 2 = 4

Dk = 3j - re - m + rr = 3 × 11 - 10 - 11 + 4

 = 16

Alternate method:

Dk (When members are extensible) = Total number of independent displacement at each joint 

Dk (When members are inextensible) = Total number of independent displacement at each joint - number of members
