Question
Download Solution PDF6 men and 8 women can do a piece of work in 10 days, whereas 26 men and 48 women can do the same work in 2 days. What will be the time taken by 15 men and 20 women to do the same work?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Let assume the efficiency of men is m and women is b.
6m + 8b = 10 days ---(1)
26m + 48b = 2 days ---(2)
Concept Used:
Total work = Efficiency x Time
Calculation: from equation (1), (2) and concept
⇒ (6m + 8b)10 = (26m +48b)2
⇒ 60m +80b = 52m + 96b
⇒ 8m = 16b
⇒ \({m\over {b} } ={ 2\over 1}\) -----(3)
⇒ Put the value of m and b from equation (3)
Total Work = (6 x 2 + 8 x 1)10
Total work = 200 units
Now, equate the total work with 15 men and 20 women
Total work = 200 = (15m +20b)D
⇒ D(15x2 + 20 x1) = 200
⇒ D = 4 days
Hence, total 4 days times is taken by 15 men and 20 women to complete the work.
