Given:

A and B earn in the ratio 2:1

A and B spend in the ratio 5:3

A and B save in the ratio 4:1

Total monthly savings of A and B = ₹5,000

Formula used:

Income - Saving = Expenditure

Calculation:

Let the monthly incomes of A and B be 2x and x respectively.

Let the savings of A and B be 4k and k respectively.

Therefore, 4k + k = ₹5,000

⇒ 5k = ₹5,000

⇒ k = ₹1,000

Savings of A = 4k = 4 × ₹1,000 = ₹4,000

Savings of B = k = ₹1,000

Income - Saving = Expenditure

A : B

Income

2 : 1

Expenditure

5 : 3

Saving

4000 : 1000

2x - 4000 / x -  1000 = 5/3

⇒  6x - 12000 = 5x - 5000

⇒ 6x - 5x = ( - 5000) + 12000

⇒ x = ₹ 7,000

∴ The correct answer is option (3).
