Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
80% of the voters voted.
3% of the votes are invalid
One candidate got 42680 votes which is 55% of the total valid votes.
Concept:
Invalid votes percent + valid votes percent = 100 percent
Calculation:
Let total voters be 1000x
Number of votes cast = 80% of 1000x = 800x
Number of valid votes = 97% of 800x = 776x
⇒ 55% of 776x = 42680
⇒ 42680x/100 = 42680
x = 100
Valid votes = 776x → 776 × 100 = 77600
The third one received only 10% of the total valid votes = 10% of 77600 = 7760
∴ The answer is 7760.
