Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Three successive discounts of 10% = single discount of ?
Formula used:
Successive discount = X + Y - \(XY \over 100\)
where X = first discount
Y = second discount
Calculation:
First discount of 10% and 10% = 10 + 10 - \(100 \over 100\) = 20 -1 = 19%
Second final discount of 19% and 10% = 19 + 10 - \(190 \over 100\) = 29 - 1.9 = 27.1%
∴ Three successive discounts of 10% is equivalent to a single discount of 27.1%.
